Software development from Rotterdam

From firmware to frontend

I am Bastiaan Teeuwen. As NSCW I build software in C and C++, Python and full-stack web, for teams looking for an experienced developer rather than an agency.

Services

Three stacks, one point of contact

From code that runs close to the hardware to the web application your customers use. Often combined: a Python backend with a web frontend, or C++ software with a new interface around it.

C and C++

Embedded, systems software and performance-critical code, new or existing.

  • Embedded and systems software
  • Modernising existing codebases
  • Profiling and optimisation

Python

Backend services, data processing, automation and integrations.

  • Backend services and APIs
  • Data processing and event streams
  • Automation and integrations

Full-stack web

Web applications, portals and internal tools, from database to browser.

  • Web applications and customer portals
  • Internal tools and dashboards
  • Fast, accessible front ends

About NSCW

One developer, start to finish

No account manager and no handover to another team. The person you talk to in the first call is the person writing the code.

  • Direct contact Questions, decisions and problems are discussed with the person doing the work.
  • Work you can hand over Tests, documentation and clear commits, so your team can carry on without me.
  • Honest about fit If a project is not a good match for me, you hear it straight away.
Process

How a project runs

Four steps, each ending with something concrete you can review before we move on.

  1. Introduction

A free half-hour call. You explain what is going on, I tell you honestly whether and how I can help.

  2. Proposal

A short written proposal covering the approach, what is in and out of scope, and an estimate in hours or a fixed price.

  3. Building

Work in short iterations, with interim deliveries you can review or test yourself. No surprises at the end.

  4. Delivery and handover

Code, documentation and a handover to your team. I can stay available for maintenance afterwards, but you are not tied to me.

Questions

Before you write

Do you work alone?
Yes. NSCW is a one-person business: you work directly with me, from the first call to the last commit. If a project needs more hands than I can offer, I tell you up front.
Do you work remotely or on site?
Mostly remotely from Rotterdam. For a kick-off, a workshop or work involving hardware I am happy to come over; we agree on that per project.
Can you join an existing codebase?
Yes, that is the rule rather than the exception. I start by reading, building and testing before I change anything, and I follow the conventions that are already there.
Which language do you work in?
Dutch or English, whatever your team uses. Code, commits and technical documentation are in English by default unless you prefer otherwise.
Next step

Tell me what you are working on

A short email with some context is enough. I reply within one working day, even when I am not the right person for the job.
